Pumping While Out & About: How to Keep It Clean, Easy & Discreet

Pumping While Out & About: How to Keep It Clean, Easy & Discreet

Leaving the house when you’re pumping doesn’t need to feel like a military operation. With the right prep and tools, you can stay clean, organised, and discreet - whether you’re heading to work, grabbing coffee, or flying interstate.

Think of this as your mini travel guide to pumping on the move.

Before You Leave: Pack Your Pumping Kit

A small pouch with essentials keeps things simple:

  • Bubka Breast Pump Wipes for quick cleans when there’s no sink in sight.
  • Reusable Milk Bags to store your liquid gold.
  • Spare parts and the correct flanges (because losing a duckbill valve at the bottom of your handbag is more common than you’d think).
  • A mini towel or cloth.
  • Water - it's thirsty work!

While You’re Out: Keep It Hygienic

You don’t always have access to soap and water. Wipes are your best friend - safe for pump parts, gentle on skin, and ready in seconds. If you’re travelling longer distances, a microwave steriliser bag stashed in your luggage is another handy back-up for hotel rooms or Airbnbs.

💡 Pro tip: Keep one pack of wipes in your nappy bag and one in your car so you’re never without them.

Storing Milk on the Move

Freshly pumped milk is too precious to waste. A small cooler bag with ice packs is useful but not essential. Freshly pumped breastmilk can be stored at room temperature for 6-8 hours according to the Australian Breastfeeding Association. Transfer to the fridge or freezer when you’re home.

Reusable bags make storing and pouring much easier (and no one needs a milk explosion in their handbag). Bubka milk bags are sturdy, eco-friendly, and seal tight.

Discretion Without Stress

Privacy looks different for everyone. Some mums prefer a quiet parenting room, others pump in their car with a wearable pump, and plenty are happy to pump at their desk. Whatever works for you, planning your “pit stops” in advance can take the edge off.

“I used to panic about leaving the house, but once I knew where I could pump and had wipes and bags ready, it felt totally doable.” - Emma, Bubka mum

Your Pump, Your Rules

There’s no one “right way” to pump when you’re away from home. The key is having the tools to make it stress-free: wipes to keep things clean, reusable bags to store milk safely, and a little planning to make it discreet.

Because the best pumping routine is the one that actually fits into your life - not the other way around.
